Die Fotogramm-Serie „Trees“ von Regina Hügli (*1975 Oxford/UK, aufgewachsen in der Schweiz, lebt und arbeitet in Wien) widmet sich dem Phänomen der Verzweigung, also der Art und Weise, wie aus einem Ast durch Gabelung zwei Zweige entstehen. Die Verzweigungen und Knospungen sind individuell verschieden und können bei allen organischen Wachstumsprozessen gleichermaßen beobachtet werden, egal ob bei Blut- oder Nervenbahnen, Flechten, Pilzrhizomen oder Korallen. Das Auf- und Niedersteigen der Säfte im organischen Gewebe, die angelegte Formgebung der Art und die äußeren Umstände, die auf den Organismus einwirken, führen zur jeweiligen Ausprägung und Gestaltung.

The photogram series “Trees” by Regina Hügli (*1975 Oxford/UK, raised in Switzerland, lives and works in Vienna) focuses on the phenomenon of ramification, in other words, the way a tree limb forks into two branches. Individual types of branching and budding are different, yet can be observed in the same way in all organic growth processes. From blood and nerve pathways to lichens, fungal rhizomes, and corals, all forms of life have processes of ramification. The ebb and flow of fluids in organic tissues, the established forms of species and the external circumstances acting on organisms lead to the expression and configuration that can be seen again in the bifurcations and spontaneous inception of budding.
