Astrid Rausch's paintings (* 1975 Innsbruck, lives and works in Vienna) are often covered with voluminous layers of oil paint, taking them into the third dimension. Her studio itself, the surface of the table on which she mixes the paints, the floor underneath and between the masking paper - it all lives, breathes and consists of lots and lots of paint. 'I work with colours that I mix myself and put together according to my own ideas,' says Rausch. 'While I'm painting, I put the picture on the floor, then I put it upright or upside down, which creates new perspectives. As a painter, I want the painting to surprise me over and over again. It is important for me to create paintings that are not narrative but associative for the viewer.'
